The newly released Australian government MyUniversity website has revealed that, at twenty nine students for every staff member, UWS has the highest student to staff ratio of any university in the country. This is compounded by the fact that UWS also has a greater proportion of casual staff than any university apart from RMIT and University of Southern Queensland (both of which have much lower student staff ratios). The inescapable conclusion from this is that UWS students are getting a raw deal in comparison to those at other universities. The current cuts being imposed on some UWS Schools resulting from lower than expected undergraduate enrolments in 2012 will only exacerbate the situation. There is a clear need for the university to fund the appointment of more teaching-active academic staff.
